    In one of the computers (861784) on which I am running BOINC the OS was recently upgraded from WIN 98 to XP. Since then I am encountering problems. That computer was assigned a new identity, the BOINC manager is failing to connect to the localhost automatically after startup & also it is encountering difficulties in communicating with the projects. I have tried uninstalling BOINC and made a fresh installation but the problems persist. Please help.

      I ran into same problem with 98SE. The problem was eventually tracked back to the firewall which didn't allow Boinc manager to connect to localhost.
