This appears to be a bug in the BOINC client, when a workunit has a long command line (which, together with the XML tags, exceeds 256 chars).
Morfeo, when you posted your error message, was there a complaint about not parsing command_line, which got dropped from your post because the message board dropped out everything with xml tags in it?
